HOW TO KEEP THE HOUSE COOL

A cool house would definitely seem to us an oasis on hot summer days! However, the use of air conditioning is now unprofitable for our finances while the protection of the environment puts some additional obstacles to its reckless use. Let's see what moves you can make to help reduce the temperature in our space!

  • Close the grilles and shutters during the day and pull the curtains to take advantage of the natural coolness. During the day, sunlight coming in from the windows creates a miniature greenhouse effect in the house, trapping the heat inside. If you do not have shutters or do not want to close them, install special sun reflection films.
  • Let the afternoon cool breeze enter the house. Just make sure you close them again before the temperature starts to go uphill again.
  • Make good insulation. If you want to keep the air cool inside your home, then be sure to shut off any possible way out. Insulate your home to keep heat away from the roof, for example, but also not to let coolness escape through a door gap or an incomplete frame.
  • Avoid incandescent bulbs and replace them with led bulbs. They consume less energy and emit less heat.
  • Use fans, ceiling or tabletop. They naturally cool the space while giving a more vintage feel to your space. They consume less electricity and the coolness is natural, like a gentle breeze. Don't just overlook having the fan run counterclockwise. If you have floor or table fans, put a container of water and ice cubes near it. The air "cools" and circulates in the space cooler.
  • Avoid using the electric stove and oven as much as you can. Both of these add unnecessary heat to the house. Instead, use the outdoor barbecue or an outdoor grill, or opt to eat a cool salad & sandwich. Pots, kettles and pressure cookers are just a few more appliances that raise the temperature in your home. Do laundry at night. As for the lights, it is advisable to turn on the bare necessities, in order to save a little more increase in the temperature of the house.
  • Plant seedlings . If you have the ability and of course the necessary space on the balcony or if you are one of the lucky ones who have a yard or garden, plant plants from the side where the sun "hits" the most. The plants will create some extra shade that will protect your home from the sun's rays.
  • Evaporating water can cool you down. Fill containers with water and place them near the openings of the house. Water should be renewed at regular intervals.
